Abstract
The informal sector is a major source of employment, in which the participation of urban women has increased significantly. This sector provides livelihood opportunities to women; however, it is also associated with problems such as income insecurity, low wages, lack of social security, and limited economic empowerment. The objective of the present study is to conduct an analytical examination of the economic condition of urban women working in the informal sector, with special reference to Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh. The study includes an in-depth analysis of key aspects such as women’s income level, nature of employment, working hours, savings status, access to credit, contribution to household income, and their role in economic decision-making. The study is based on both primary and secondary data. Information has been collected through questionnaires and interview methods. The research findings clearly indicate that although women working in the urban informal sector make a significant contribution to the household economy, their economic condition remains unstable and insecure. The study suggests that the economic condition of these women can be improved through skill development, financial inclusion, provision of fair wages, and effective implementation of social security schemes.
